The phrase, “ọgọ m egbulam” jumped out at me on Ugoccie’s “Voice of the East” EP. It means something like “May my good deeds not be the end of me” or “May my kindness not come back to haunt me”. I made this artwork in Nsibidi to express it. I like that prayer, because of the use of the word “ọgọ”. I believe the root “gọ” is the same in the word “ịgọ” as in “ịgọ ọfọ” and “ngọzi” which seems to imply that the kindness is like an invocation (prayer). Every action/gesture is like a seed planted in the fertile soil of reality’s timeline, and some fruit grows from it eventually. May the fruit be to our benefit and wellness, and not to hurt us. Isee!
